Autumn in Cottonwood Canyon – Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument, Utah

My initial plan was to visit the American Southwest because it would be warmer in November than some other locations on my travel short list. However, when we arrived, we discovered that it was the perfect time to visit. Cooler temperatures made hiking and exploring much better than in the summer and while rare, the deciduous trees of the area were changing colors for Autumn. This made for some really unique photographs, with the beautiful fall colors of the Cottonwood trees contrasting even more dramatically against the harsh desert terrain.
