Intersecting Ferns – Longwood Gardens, Kennett Square, Pennsylvania

A few years ago, I tried to photograph intersecting ferns like this in the botanical gardens in Washington D.C. I was unable to get a sharp photo, though, because it was pretty dark in the room and I didn’t have my tripod. I’ve been looking to recreate this scenario since then. I am quite pleased with this one. I love the intricate patterns and details found in ferns. The interplay between the overlapping branches is really interesting. Newer and better gear, found in my Canon 5D Mark II and 100mm f/2.8 Macro IS made this possible in similar lighting as the failed shot from D.C.
